Introduction
Nova: Picture this. It's 1975 in Angola. A Portuguese colony is about to gain independence, and three liberation movements are vying for power. But here's the thing — the real fight isn't just among Angolans. The United States is secretly funneling support to one faction. The Soviet Union is backing another. China is backing a third, for completely different reasons. And before anyone knows it, Cuba, Congo, Zaire, North Korea, Romania, and apartheid South Africa have all been sucked into this one country's civil war. The Cold War, it turns out, was never really cold — and it was never confined to Europe.
